A regional healthcare provider serving newcomer communities in the Greater Toronto Area faced instability due to multiple high-profile transitions in its CEO position over the past five years. It was critical for the organization to attract, hire, and retain a new CEO who could restore stability and lead the execution of a new strategic plan in the midst of an evolving healthcare landscape.
The consulting team conducted a comprehensive assessment of the organization to understand its current state, critical needs, and leadership requirements. This involved consultations with board members, the leadership team, external healthcare partners, the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, and other stakeholders. The objective was to identify a leader who not only had the technical expertise in the healthcare sector but also had a deep understanding of the multicultural communities the organization served. The ideal candidate needed to foster a nurturing organizational culture and successfully lead the company through its new strategic mandate in a constantly shifting regional healthcare environment.
After defining the essential competencies and traits for the role, the consulting team employed a mix of targeted job postings in relevant healthcare channels and a direct headhunting campaign, which identified three finalist candidates.
Through this thorough process, the consulting team successfully helped the healthcare provider select a new CEO who met the technical and cultural criteria necessary to stabilize the organization and guide it into its next phase of growth and strategic development. OCS was approached by a long-term client about an opportunity to speak with a group of senior leaders and advise them on what they need to know about talent acquisition, management, and retention. OCS offered to conduct a presentation with insight into best practices for recruitment and the current labour.
OCS proposed a 1.5-hour in-person presentation, led by Antoinette King, which was delivered to 10 members of a CEO group in late 2023. The presentation covered key areas such as preparation for the hiring process, effective resource allocation, employer branding, recruitment trends, managing a multi-generational workforce, and innovative retention strategies. The session fostered open discussion, encouraging attendees to share their own experiences, successes, and challenges while exploring talent management solutions.
Drawing on its deep expertise and ongoing labor market research, OCS highlighted best practices and strategies tailored to the current competitive landscape.
